I've been messing around with Raccoon Pop Match on my android for a couple of weeks now, and honestly, it's one of those casual puzzle games that's perfect for killing time. As a match-3 game, it's pretty straightforward: you swap and match colorful bubbles to clear levels, all while helping a cute raccoon character progress through a quirky, colorful world. It launched back in 2022 on Google Play and the App Store, and from what I've seen, it's crossed over 1 million installs on Google Play alone. The game is free to download and play, but like most mobile games these days, it has in-app purchases. You can buy boosters, extra moves, or premium currency packs, and they usually range from $0.99 to around $9.99. There are also optional in-app ads that pop up between levels or after a failed attempt, but you can watch them for free rewards like extra moves or coins, which is a nice touch. I also noticed it's purely a mobile game—no PC or console ports like on Steam or Xbox, which makes sense given its tap-and-swipe mechanics.

When you install and launch the app, the gameplay is pretty addicting. You match three or more of the same colored bubble to clear them, and each level has a specific goal—like reaching a certain score, collecting items, or clearing obstacles. The best part for me is the power-ups. Popping a group of six or more bubbles creates a special bomb that clears a huge area, and there's also a color bomb that removes all bubbles of one color. I love chaining these together for massive combos; it's super satisfying when the screen explodes and the score multiplier kicks in. My favorite part, though, is the raccoon character. He's got this goofy grin, and after each level, he does a little dance or reacts to your performance, which adds some personality that most match-3 games lack. The level design is also pretty varied—there are ice blocks, locked bubbles, and honey traps that require strategic thinking, not just random tapping. It keeps the game from feeling repetitive, and I found myself losing track of time trying to beat that one tricky level with limited moves.

Compared to similar games like Candy Crush Saga or Bubble Witch 3, Raccoon Pop Match feels more laid-back and less aggressive with its monetization. I've played Candy Crush for years, and while it's polished, the constant ads and pressure to buy boosters can be exhausting. This game gives you more freebies, like daily rewards and spin wheels, so you don't feel stuck unless you hit a really hard boss level. The visual style is also more charming—less corporate, more indie, with hand-drawn graphics that remind me of a Saturday morning cartoon. Another game it reminds me of is Farm Heroes Saga, but Raccoon Pop Match focuses more on bubble popping than swapping fruits, which feels fresher. I'd recommend this over those heavy hitters if you want a casual experience that doesn't demand your credit card every five minutes. It's perfect for short sessions on the bus or before bed, and the raccoon's personality just makes it more fun to return to.

features

  • Bubble Pop Mechanics 🎈: Unlike standard match-3 games that use tiles, Raccoon Pop Match uses bubbles that pop when matched, similar to Puzzle Bobble, but with a grid-based swap system. This hybrid approach feels fresh and reduces the frustration of stuck tiles.
  • Raccoon Companion 🦝: Your raccoon character reacts to your moves with animations and sounds, something games like Candy Crush Saga lack. He cheers you on and even sulks if you fail, adding emotional investment.
  • No Time Limits ⏰: Each level has a move limit, not a timer, so you can think through your strategy. This is a big plus over games like Bejeweled, which often rush you with timers in certain modes.

pros

  • Generous Free-to-Play Model 💰: Raccoon Pop Match gives out free boosters and coins frequently via daily logins and level completion bonuses. Unlike Toon Blast, which gates progress hard, this game feels fair—you rarely hit a paywall.
  • Charming Art Style 🎨: The graphics are vibrant and cartoony, with a warm color palette that's easy on the eyes. Compared to the flashy, almost sterile look of Candy Crush, this game feels more personal and inviting.
  • Smart Obstacle Design 🧩: Levels include ice blocks, lock keys, and honey that require careful planning to clear. This beats the repetitive layouts in Bubble Witch 3, where obstacles feel tacked on rather than integrated.

cons

  • Level Repetition 🔁: After around 150 levels, the same patterns start repeating—like “clear 30 yellow bubbles” or “break all ice blocks.” Compared to Candy Crush's ever-evolving level themes, this game runs out of ideas faster, so it gets a bit stale.
  • Loading Screen Ads 📺: While you can watch ads for rewards, the forced 5-second video before some levels after a loss is annoying. Toon Blast handles this better by making ads entirely optional.
  • Limited Social Features 👥: You can only connect to Facebook to see friends' progress, but there's no direct competition or team events. Games like Candy Crush have leaderboards and tournaments, which this lacks, making it feel lonely after a while.
