So I've been sinking a decent amount of time into Number Master: Run and Merge, which is developed by KAYAC Inc. If you aren't familiar, it's a hyper-casual merge game mixed with an endless runner. You control a little character that picks up numbers and merges them to get bigger, which then lets you smash through blocks and obstacles. It's a pure mobile game, exclusively available on Android via Google Play and on iOS through the App Store. There's no PC version on Steam or a port to consoles like Xbox or Switch, which honestly makes sense given its simple touch controls. The game first launched a while back and has racked up over 50 million installs on Google Play alone. It's completely free to download and play, but like almost every mobile game now, it has in app purchases. You can buy coins and boosts to skip levels or upgrade faster. There are also in app ads, though they are mostly optional. If you want to remove ads or grab a starter pack, expect to spend anywhere from $1.99 to $6.99. It's a fair model for a game you can just pick up and play.

Playing it is super straightforward. You swipe left or right to move your character down a straight path, and your goal is to collect number bubbles that pop up. Each time you grab a matching number, your character's number value merges and increases. This is the core mechanic that makes it addictive. The best part? When your number gets high enough, you can literally run through walls and barriers that have lower numbers on them. It gives you this awesome feeling of power, like you're just bulldozing through everything. The challenge comes from planning your route to pick up the right numbers before hitting a wall that's too high for you. My absolute favorite part is the "boss" levels where you face a giant enemy with a huge number. You have to quickly merge smaller numbers on the field before you can attack it, and the pressure is real. The sound design and simple visuals keep it engaging without being overstimulating, which is perfect for a quick 5-minute session waiting in line or on the bus.

Compared to other games in the genre, Number Master: Run and Merge really stands out. You've probably seen games like Mergedom or Number Run 3D, but this one feels more polished. Where other merge runners can feel clunky, KAYAC Inc. nailed the smoothness of the movement. I also think it does a better job at balancing difficulty. Some games just throw impossible walls at you after level 10, but here the progression feels fair. You can always grind earlier levels to boost your stats before tackling a tough one. The visual feedback when you merge numbers is satisfying, and the variety of obstacles keeps it from getting boring. I'd recommend this over other similar apps because it respects your time. You can play for 2 minutes or 20 minutes, and you won't feel like you wasted your time. Sure, there's no deep story or complex strategy, but for a casual game on Android, it's pure fun. If you already have it installed, you know what I mean.

features

  • Simple Merge Mechanic 🧩 – You just run and grab the same number to combine them. It's way more intuitive than games like Number King. No complex fusing or waiting timers. Tap, merge, smash.
  • No Energy System ⚡ – This is a huge deal for me. Unlike Mergedom where you run out of lives constantly, this game lets you play as much as you want. No waiting for energy to refill. You can grind levels whenever you feel like it.
  • Progressive Boss Fights 🧙 – Every few levels you get a boss battle that actually requires strategy. You can't just mash through it. You have to plan your number collection route before attacking, which adds a real skill element that many other casual runners lack.

pros

  • Satisfying Smash Feel 💥 – The moment your number is high enough to break through a wall, the screen shakes a little and there's a crunchy sound. It's incredibly satisfying. Games like Number Run 3D don't give that same weight to collisions. This one makes you feel strong.
  • Fair Free-to-Play Model 🆓 – You never feel forced to pay. The ads are optional and usually give you a reward for watching them. I've beaten most levels without spending a dime. Compare that to some other merge games that lock progression behind a paywall after level 20. Here, you can just grind it out.
  • Quick Session Length ⌛ – Each level takes maybe 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It's perfect for mobile gaming. You're not committing to a 20-minute match like in some strategy games. You can play one quick level while waiting for coffee, and it feels complete.

cons

  • Repetitive Gameplay Loop 🔁 – After about 50 levels, the core gameplay starts to feel samey. You're just running, merging numbers, and smashing walls. Games like Merge Master offer a bit more variety with different maps or enemy types. Here, the obstacles repeat often, which can get boring after a while.
  • Too Many Ads for Free Players 📺 – While ads are optional, they pop up frequently between levels if you don't pay. It feels like you watch an ad after every 3-4 runs. Some other similar apps like Number Push handle ads better by spacing them out more. It can break your flow.
  • No Real Strategy Depth 🧠 – This is a casual game, so I get it, but compared to something like Idle Number which has upgrade trees and multiple merge chains, this one is very linear. You just get bigger numbers. There's no branching choices or different characters with unique abilities. It's simple to a fault.
