So I've been sinking a surprising amount of time into Teamwork Obby: Puzzles Obby on my Android phone lately, and honestly, it's a pretty solid time-killer. This is a team-based obstacle course game, which is a sub-genre I normally associate more with PC games like those you'd find on Steam or even weird Roblox clones. It launched on the Google Play Store and App Store a few months back, and while it hasn't hit the massive install numbers yet (sitting around 500k downloads), the community is growing. It's completely free to download and play, which is a major plus, but yeah, you'll run into in-app purchases and those pesky in-app ads. The premium currency packs usually run anywhere from $1.99 to $19.99, mostly for cosmetics or to skip the grind on really tough levels, but I've been getting by just fine without spending a dime.

The core loop is exactly what you'd expect from the title. You and up to three other players have to navigate a series of increasingly complex obstacle courses. The best part is that it forces actual cooperation. You can't just rush ahead like you would in a single-player platformer. Some platforms only trigger when two players stand on them, and certain puzzles require one player to hold a button while another dashes through a gate. My favorite part is the "leap of faith" sections. You need to trust your teammate to activate a bridge at just the right moment, and when you both nail the timing, it feels incredibly satisfying. It's not just about running and jumping; you have to communicate, even if it's just with the basic emote system they added.

Compared to other games in this genre, like the popular "Stumble Guys" or even the PC-exclusive "Only Up!", this one feels more deliberate. Stumble Guys is pure chaos and luck, but Teamwork Obby requires actual skill and coordination. It's closer in spirit to the puzzle-heavy sections of "Portal 2" but on a much smaller scale and with a focus on physical dexterity. I recommend this app over other games because it's one of the few mobile games where I've actually made friends by failing together. You laugh off the mistakes, and that shared frustration is half the fun. If you're tired of auto-play mobile RPGs or mindless shooters, give this one a download. It's a breath of fresh air for the puzzle-obstacle genre on Google Play.

features

  • True Co-op Pacing 🔄 Unlike games like "Fall Guys" where it's every player for themselves, this game forces you to slow down and wait for your partner. It's a refreshing change from the chaotic rush of battle royale-style games.
  • Simple but Smart Puzzles 🧠 The puzzles are not overly complicated like a "Myst" game, but they are clever enough to require two heads to solve. They don't rely on luck, so you genuinely feel smart when you figure out a sequence.
  • Minimalist Controls 🎮 The touch controls are surprisingly responsive for an Android game. You get a virtual joystick and a jump button, and that's it. No complex combos, which makes it easy to pick up and play on the bus.
  • Free-to-Play Friendly 💸 While there are in-app purchases, you can unlock almost everything just by watching a short ad for a revive. It's less aggressive than other mobile games like "Subway Surfers" with their constant pop-ups.

pros

  • Emphasis on Teamwork 🤝 This is the game's biggest strength. Unlike "Brawlhalla" where you can solo carry, here you are genuinely helpless without a partner. It fosters a real sense of camaraderie that most mobile multiplayer games lack.
  • Consistent Updates 📈 The developer, Games99Ous, has been pushing out new levels every two weeks. It keeps the Google Play version feeling fresh, unlike some other obby games that get abandoned after launch.
  • Low Barrier to Entry 🚀 The install size is tiny (under 100MB), so it runs smoothly on older Android phones. You don't need a flagship device to enjoy smooth 60fps gameplay, which is a huge plus compared to graphically intense mobile ports.

cons

  • Annoying Ads 📺 While the game is free, the frequency of rewarded ads can be intrusive. After failing a level twice, you are often forced to watch a 30-second ad to continue. Games like "Geometry Dash" handle this more gracefully with a simple retry button.
  • Team-dependent Frustration 😤 If you get paired with a player who doesn't understand the puzzle or just quits in the middle of the level, your run is essentially over. Unlike "Among Us" where you can still do tasks solo, here you are dead in the water with a bad teammate.
  • Basic Visuals 🎨 The graphics are very blocky and lack the polish of a game like "Sky: Children of the Light." While the gameplay is fun, the visual design feels a bit dated for a 2024 Android release, which might turn off players looking for a more polished aesthetic.
