Ultimate Sackboy is a mobile endless runner that brings the charming LittleBigPlanet mascot to your phone. It was developed by Exient and first launched in 2023. You can grab it on Android through the Google Play Store, and it is also on iOS via the App Store. It is a pure mobile game, so you will not find it on PC stores like Steam or on consoles like Xbox or Switch. The install count sits in the millions, which shows plenty of people have given it a shot. The best part? It is free to download and install. You can play the whole game without spending a dime, though there are in-app purchases. These usually range from a couple of dollars up to twenty bucks for bundles of coins or costumes. There are also optional ads you can watch for bonuses, but they are not forced on you. For a free app, that is a pretty fair setup.

Playing Ultimate Sackboy is simple. You swipe left and right to dodge obstacles, swipe up to jump, and swipe down to slide. The goal is to run as far as you can while collecting stickers and orbs. The best part is how smooth the controls feel. I have played a lot of runners where the swipes lag or do not register, but this one nails it. My favorite part is customizing Sackboy with different outfits. You can unlock costumes based on other PlayStation characters, and seeing them bob and weave through the levels never gets old. The levels change themes often, so you are not staring at the same background for hours. It keeps me coming back for one more run, even when I tell myself I am done.

Compared to other endless runners like Subway Surfers or Temple Run, Ultimate Sackboy stands out because of its personality. Subway Surfers has that urban vibe, and Temple Run is more about the jungle chase. But this game has the weird, creative charm of LittleBigPlanet. The music is quirky, the visuals are bright, and the little animations when you fail make me smile instead of rage. I recommend this game over those others if you want something less stressful and more playful. It is not trying to be super hardcore. It is just fun. As a real user, I have kept it installed on my phone for months, which is rare for me. If you like runners and want one that does not take itself too seriously, download Ultimate Sackboy and give it a shot.

features

  • PlayStation crossover costumes 🎮: You can unlock outfits from God of War, Horizon, and other Sony games, which is a treat for fans.
  • Simple swipe controls 👆: The game only needs four swipes, so anyone can pick it up in seconds without a tutorial.
  • Weekly challenges 📅: Compared to Subway Surfers, which has daily stuff, this one gives you a full week to hit targets, so it feels less rushed.
  • No forced ads 🚫: You can play for an hour and never see a pop-up ad, unlike many free runners on Google Play.

pros

  • Charming visual style 🎨: The crafty, handmade look is way more unique than the flat graphics in Temple Run, and it makes every run feel like a tiny adventure.
  • Fair free-to-play model 💰: You can earn most costumes by just playing, which is not always true in Subway Surfers where some characters cost real cash.
  • Short, satisfying runs ⏱️: Each run lasts about two to three minutes, perfect for a quick break, and it never feels like a grind.

cons

  • Repetitive after a while 🔁: Once you unlock the main costumes, the goals start to feel the same, and it lacks the constant event updates of Subway Surfers.
  • Limited game modes 🕹️: There is basically one mode, so if you get bored of endless running, there is nothing else to switch to, unlike Temple Run which has added different challenges over time.
  • In-app purchases can tempt you 💸: The cheapest coin bundle is a few dollars, but to get everything fast, you might spend more than you planned, which is a common issue with free mobile apps.
