Water Reminder - Remind Drink is exactly what it sounds like: a hydration tracking app that sends you push notifications to drink water throughout the day. It's one of those utility apps you find a million versions of on Google Play and the App Store. You download it, install it, and within thirty seconds, it asks for your weight, wake-up time, and bedtime so it can calculate a personalized daily water goal. The first impression when you launch it is actually pretty clean—soft colors, a wave animation that fills up as you log drinks, and a simple circle that shows your progress. It feels less cluttered than a lot of similar apps I've tried, and there's no aggressive ad popup right away, which already earns it some goodwill. Registration isn't forced either, which is nice. You can just start using it.
After a few days of actually using Water Reminder, the experience is mostly smooth but has some quirks. The main screen shows your daily goal, and you tap a glass icon to log 250ml, or you can hold it to add custom amounts. The onboarding walks you through the basics, but there's no tutorial for some of the smaller features like setting different reminders for work and home hours. I found that the default reminder sound is pretty soft, so I almost missed it a couple times. A practical tip: if you adjust your bedtime in the settings, the app automatically stops reminding you at night, which is smart. You can also set a "sleep mode" schedule manually. The daily flow is straightforward: you get a notification, you drink, you tap the app, you see your circle fill up a little more. It becomes a satisfying little habit loop after two or three days.
After using it for about a week, I think Water Reminder is genuinely useful for people who know they don't drink enough but hate complicated health dashboards. It's not going to blow your mind, and it's not packed with features like some competitors, but that minimalism might be its charm. Someone who already uses a full fitness tracker or a habit app like Habitica might not need this, because hydration tracking is baked into those platforms anyway. But for someone who just wants a lightweight, no-fuss nudge to drink more water, this app does the job well. The free version has ads, but they appear as small banners at the bottom, not full-screen interruptions. There are in-app purchases for removing ads and unlocking themes, but honestly, the free version is already perfectly usable. I can see keeping it installed for months, mostly because it's so low-effort.
features
- 💧 Simple, goal-based logging. You set your weight and your daily water goal is calculated automatically. You just tap a glass icon to add 250ml. It's much quicker than apps like Plant Nanny, which require you to water a virtual plant for every drink you log. That extra step gets old fast. This app cuts the friction down to one tap.
- 🔔 Smart reminders that adapt. You can set multiple custom reminders for different times of day, and the app learns your sleep schedule so it doesn't buzz you at midnight. Compared to WaterMinder, which has a prettier interface but charges a subscription for custom reminders, this app gives you basically the same utility for free.
- 📊 Clean daily progress circle. The visual feedback is satisfying without being overwhelming. You see a wave inside a circle that fills up as you log water. It shows your percentage, your current intake, and your goal all in one glance. No graphs, no charts, no extra tabs to scroll through.
pros
- ✅ No registration required. You can open the app, input your weight, and start tracking immediately. Many competitors like Hydro Coach force you to make an account before you even see the interface. This app respects your time.
- ✅ Lightweight and fast. The app is under 10MB and loads instantly even on older phones. Apps like Water Time have become bloated with social features and workout integrations, but this one stays lean and purposeful.
- ✅ Customizable drink sizes. Beyond the default 250ml glass, you can add your own drink sizes and save them as presets. This is helpful if you drink from a 500ml bottle or a 1.5L jug. It's a small thing, but it makes logging more accurate.
cons
- ❌ Limited drink variety logging. You can only log water, not other beverages like tea, coffee, or juice. Apps like WaterMinder let you differentiate and adjust the water count for caffeine or sugar content. Here, you just log everything as water, which isn't great if accuracy matters to you.
- ❌ No cloud backup. If you switch phones or reinstall the app, your history is gone. Hydro Coach syncs your data across devices, but this app relies entirely on local storage. It's a bit frustrating if you're the kind of person who likes to look back at weekly trends.
- ❌ Basic design feels a bit outdated. The color themes are limited, and the fonts aren't the most modern. Plant Nanny and WaterMinder clearly put more effort into visual polish. It doesn't affect functionality, but it does make the app feel less premium.
