Real Ghost Detector + Radar is exactly the kind of app you stumble upon at 2 AM when curiosity gets the better of you. It sits in the utility or entertainment section of the Play Store, but really it's a novelty app that turns your phone into a so-called paranormal detection tool. People download this not because they genuinely think they'll chat with Casper, but because they want a laugh or a mild spook at a sleepover. The first impression after launching is instant: a stark radar screen fills your display, and a red dot blips around like it's hunting for something unseen. It feels straight out of a cheap horror game, which is clearly the intent. The app is free to install, no forced registration, though there are ads that pop up between readings. I didn't see any in-app purchases during my trial, but a banner ad at the bottom is hard to miss.

Once you start using it, the novelty wears off fast, but the experience itself is straightforward. You hold your phone up, wave it around a bit, and watch the radar glitch or spike. There's no real onboarding or tutorial, you just tap the scan button and hope something happens. The main action is pointing your phone at different corners of a room and waiting for the meter to flicker. I did get a few false alarms where the needle jumped near a microwave, which honestly felt more like interference than ghosts. The interface is clean but basic, with a dark theme and neon green accents that try to sell the spooky vibe. A small practical tip: if you want a better reading, rotate your phone slowly and keep your hand steady. The sensors pick up electromagnetic fluctuations, but they also pick up your fridge, so it's hit or miss.

After spending a few days with this app, I can see who might enjoy it and who will delete it within minutes. Kids and teenagers at a party would get a kick out of pretending to find ghosts in their basement. But if you're looking for something genuinely useful or scientifically grounded, this isn't it. Compared to something like GhostTube SLS, which actually tries to mimic professional paranormal equipment, Real Ghost Detector + Radar feels more like a toy. What makes it different is its absolute lack of seriousness, which is either its charm or its downfall depending on your mood. I kept it installed for a while because it's fun to show friends, but eventually the ads and repetitive radar blips get old. It's a decent laugh for five minutes, but not something you rely on for real entertainment or utility.

features

  • 👻 Real Ghost Detector + Radar uses your phone's built-in magnetic field sensor to simulate ghost detection, whereas GhostTube SLS relies on a more complex camera-based motion detection system. The radar visual here is simpler and less convincing, but it works faster out of the box without calibration.
  • 👻 The standout feature is the "live radar" display that updates in real time as you move around, creating a pseudo-interactive experience. Comparatively, Ghost Radar uses static bars and text logs, so the radar feels more dynamic even if it's just noise.
  • 👻 The app automatically saves every reading with a timestamp and a screenshot of the radar state, which is a handy way to log your "ghost hunts." Most free competitors don't offer this, and it makes sharing fake evidence with friends much easier.

pros

  • ✅ The app is completely free with no hidden paywalls, unlike GhostTube SLS which locks advanced features behind a subscription. You get the full sensor tool without spending a cent.
  • ✅ It launches almost instantly with no loading screens, which beats apps like Paranormal Ghost Detector that require a tedious startup tutorial every time you open them.
  • ✅ The radar animations are smooth and react to movement, which feels more engaging than the static meter bars used in similar free apps like Ghost Radar.

cons

  • ❌ The app triggers false positives from any electronic device, like phones or microwaves, which makes it feel less spooky and more like a buggy sensor toy compared to GhostTube SLS's filtered detection.
  • ❌ Intrusive banner ads disrupt the experience mid-scan, whereas Ghost Radar keeps ads only at the bottom without interrupting the meter.
  • ❌ There's zero scientific basis or explanation of how the readings work, so anyone expecting a serious tool will be disappointed compared to dedicated EMF meter apps.
