I stumbled upon How Old Do I Look – Age by Edia Studio a few weeks ago when I was just messing around on the App Store. It's one of those playful camera apps that analyzes your face and tries to guess your age. You basically snap a selfie, let the app do its thing, and it gives you a number along with some comments like “You look 25, but with a tired vibe.” It's not claiming to be scientific or anything, it's more like a fun party trick. After downloading it (it's free by the way), I launched it and was greeted with a clean camera interface. No sign-up required, which I really appreciated. It doesn't shove ads in your face right away either, though occasionally a banner pops up. First impression was pretty good because it worked fast and felt light on my phone.
Once I actually started using it, the experience was pretty straightforward. You point the camera at your face, tap the button, and wait like two seconds. The interface is minimal, just a viewfinder and a capture button. The first time I tried it, I was kind of impressed by how quickly it processed. It even tries to guess your gender and mood, which felt a bit unnecessary but still funny. I tested it with different people, different lighting, and even sunglasses. In good light, it was more consistent. When I tried it in dim lighting, it would sometimes say I looked older or straight up failed to detect a face. One small tip: don't smile too big or squint because it seems to confuse the algorithm. The app doesn't really teach you to use it, but you don't need instructions anyway. There's no gallery or history feature, so every scan is fresh. That's both a plus and a minus. I found myself showing it to friends at a dinner party and we all had a good laugh comparing results.
After using it for a while, I'd say this app is perfect if you just want a quick laugh with friends or a fun icebreaker. It's not something you'd rely on for any real purpose. The age guesses are often off by a few years, especially on people over 40, and it totally flops if you're wearing glasses or a hat. Compared to apps like FaceApp which do similar age filters but with way more polish, this one feels more like a toy. Still, I kept it installed because it's small, opens fast, and doesn't ask for permissions to access my photos or contacts. I might delete it later if I get bored, but for now it's a fun little time waster. It's not for anyone looking for accurate age detection, but if you just want a silly gadget to pull out at parties, it does the job well enough.
features
- 😄 The app's standout feature is how fast it works. Unlike some other age guessers that take five seconds to load a result, this one gives you a number almost instantly after you snap the photo. It feels snappy and responsive, which is rare in free apps these days.
- 😄 It also reads your mood and gender along with the age guess. While other apps like FaceApp only focus on age or beauty filters, this one throws in “happy,” “neutral,” or “surprised” labels. It's not accurate at all, but it adds a layer of randomness that makes it more entertaining.
- 😄 The lack of account creation is a big plus for me. Apps like YouCam or Perfect365 nag you to sign up or connect social media. This app just lets you open and use it immediately, no email, no tracking. That kind of simplicity is refreshing for a quick use tool.
pros
- 👍 Lightweight and battery friendly. Compared to apps like Snapchat or Instagram which have age filters buried in a million features, this app uses almost no storage and doesn't drain your battery. You can open it ten times a day without noticing any lag.
- 👍 No intrusive permissions. It only asks for camera access. Other similar apps often want access to your gallery, contacts, or location. That makes How Old Do I Look feel safer and more private for a quick try.
- 👍 Free with minimal ads. Many age guessing apps charge for premium results or bombard you with full screen video ads. This one shows a small banner sometimes, but it never forces you to watch anything. That's rare honesty.
cons
- 👎 Accuracy is hit or miss. Even compared to simple apps like Age Snap, this one frequently misjudges ages by five years or more. If you're hoping for consistent results, you'll be disappointed. It's more of a random number generator than a reliable tool.
- 👎 No photo saving or history. Unlike FaceApp which lets you save your altered photos or scroll back through past edits, this app has zero memory. You take a picture, see the guess, and if you don't screenshot, it's gone. That limits replay value.
- 👎 Doesn't work well in group photos or low light. Most similar apps can handle multiple faces or dim conditions to some extent. This one basically gives up. If you try to scan a group, it usually only detects one person or just fails entirely.
