I first came across Idol Prank Video Call & Chat by LightCode Solutions while browsing the Google Play Store, and it's exactly what it sounds like: a prank call and chat simulation app. It lets you pretend you're having a video call or chat with a celebrity-like character, which is basically the whole point. A lot of people probably download it just for a laugh, maybe to prank friends or mess around with fake video call screens. Opening it for the first time, my initial impression was kind of mixed. The interface feels pretty crowded right away, and there's a ton of ads and in-app purchase prompts. The app is free to download but pushes paid content hard from the get-go. It also registered over ten million installs.
When I actually went in to use it, the experience felt clunky. There's a big list of "idols" to choose from, and you pick one to start a fake video call. The video clips loop, and the chat messages are pre-written, so there isn't much interactivity. You basically just tap some buttons to trigger call connections or message replies. A common usage step would be choosing a character, hitting the call button, and then the app plays a looping video. The interface isn't intuitive though; I found a few buttons that did nothing, and sometimes the video froze for a second. One small practical tip is that you can screenshot the fake call screen to send to friends, which is what a lot of users seem to do. The onboarding is fast, but the sheer number of pop-ups makes it feel annoying early on.
After using it for a while, I think it's really just for people who want a quick prank tool and don't care about polish. It's not something you'd keep installed unless you constantly prank people. Teens or younger users might get a kick out of it, but for anyone looking for even slightly realistic simulation, this isn't it. It's different from apps like Fake Call or Fake Chat because those usually give you more control, like customizing profiles or scripting messages. Here, everything is locked behind paywalls or just plain shallow. I uninstalled it after a day because the low-effort design and constant ads killed the fun. I could see someone keeping it if they really enjoy the specific prank library, but for me, it just felt like a cash grab.
features
- 📞 The prank call simulation works by playing a looping video of a pre-selected "idol" character, so you don't actually talk; you just pretend. This is way less flexible than something like Fake Video Call Pro, which lets you upload your own image or record a custom video loop.
- 💬 Chat messages are pre-written and static, so you can only send the exact lines the app provides. There's no branching dialogue or random generation, unlike true chat simulators like Botify AI that let you type anything.
- 🖼️ It offers a massive lineup of over 100 idol characters with different "celebrity-like" appearances and voices. Compared to simpler prank apps that give you like 10 options, this feels like a lot, but the quality of each video loop varies wildly.
- 🔔 A unique standout feature is "prank alert" notifications that mimic fake incoming calls from an idol, even when the app is closed. That gives the prank a more spontaneous feel than apps that only work when you actively open them.
pros
- 🔊 The fake video call screen looks quite believable at a glance because it mimics real video chat UIs and the looping video has no visible overlays. Compared to Fake Video Call Pro, which can show loading or buffering screens, Idol Prank keeps the illusion smoother.
- 🎭 It includes voice snippets for many characters instead of just text, which makes the prank feel more authentic. Many similar free apps, like Fake Call, only show a silent call screen, so this is a clear strength.
- ⚡ You can schedule a call to trigger at a specific time, which beats competing apps that require manual activation. That feature makes it perfect for planned pranks without fumbling with buttons.
cons
- 📛 The app is overloaded with interstitial ads and video ads that interrupt after almost every action, which makes even a short prank session feel tedious. Competing apps like Fake Call have fewer or optional ads.
- 💸 Almost every decent feature, like custom chat responses or ad-free usage, is locked behind in-app purchases. Compared to free alternatives, this one feels aggressively monetized, almost to the point of being unusable without paying.
- 👎 The character library is huge, but the video loops are often low quality, with poor frame rates or mismatched audio, which kinda ruins the illusion. Rival apps like Prank Call Simulator have fewer but higher quality loops.
- ❌ There is no real social or sharing integration beyond taking screenshots yourself. Other prank apps allow you to directly share the fake call screen to social media within the app, making pranking more seamless.
