Love Language Test is one of those fun, lighthearted quiz apps you find while browsing the Play Store, and it's exactly what the name suggests — a way to figure out which love language you or your partner leans toward. I came across it when I was looking for something quick to pass the time with my girlfriend, and the install count was surprisingly high for such a niche app. It's a free download, and you don't really need to register to get started, though there are some optional in-app purchases for extra personality reports. The first impression after launching it is pretty straightforward: a clean, pastel-colored interface with just a “Start Test” button. No splash screens full of ads, no pop-ups asking for your email — that part actually felt refreshing compared to other quiz apps that bombard you immediately.
Once you get into the actual experience, the app walks you through a series of multiple-choice questions about how you express love. Things like “Do you prefer a partner who gives you compliments or a partner who does chores for you?” It's not a long test — maybe 30 questions in total — so it doesn't drag. The interface is smooth to navigate, and I liked that each question has an image attached, which makes it feel less like a boring textbook questionnaire. There's a small progress bar at the top, so you know how far along you are. The only confusing part was when I accidentally tapped “Finish Early,” which instantly ended the quiz and gave me a result based on fewer questions. I had to redo it, which wasn't a big deal, but maybe a confirmation pop-up could help there. A practical tip: if you take the test with your partner, each of you can take it on the same phone just by tapping “New User” after the first result.
After using it for a while, I'd say it's a decent app for couples or singles who are into self-discovery. It's not going to replace professional therapy or anything deep like that, but as a casual activity on a lazy afternoon, it works. The results are broken down into percentages for each love language (words of affirmation, quality time, etc.), and they actually matched my gut feeling pretty well. Compared to apps like 5 Love Languages Official, this one feels more colorful and less serious, which is both good and bad — good if you want to have fun with your partner, but less useful if you're looking for a deeper, science-backed assessment. I kept it installed because it's small and I might bring it out at parties for fun. But truth be told, someone who's already read the love languages book might find the results too basic to keep the app around.
features
- 💞 The quiz is quick and visual — each question comes with a cute illustration, so it feels more like a game than a personality test. In contrast, the official 5 Love Languages app uses plain text questions that can feel a bit dry after a while.
- 💞 You can compare results with a partner directly inside the app. After both of you finish, it shows a side-by-side breakdown, which makes it easy to spot differences. The official app lets you share results, but you have to do it manually through a screenshot or message.
- 💞 The results are presented as a pie chart and a fun summary card you can save or share. This visual touch makes the outcome feel more personal and shareable. Many similar apps just give you a text paragraph and call it done.
- 💞 It works offline after loading the questions. No constant internet requirement like some competitors, which is great if you're on a commute without good signal.
pros
- 🎯 It's completely free to take the main test — no daily limit or locked questions. Love Nudge, for example, limits how many times you can retake the assessment without paying.
- 🎯 The interface is very beginner-friendly. My mom, who isn't great with apps, could finish the test without asking for help. That's not the case with the official Love Language app, which has a less intuitive layout.
- 🎯 The onboarding is zero-hassle. No account creation needed, no permission requests beyond what's necessary. Apps like Paired ask for access to your contacts and notifications right away, which can feel invasive.
cons
- ⚠️ The quiz is fairly short compared to more thorough options — only 30 questions. The official 5 Love Languages app has a longer test that gives you a more nuanced result.
- ⚠️ There's no depth in the results. You get percentages and a short description for each love language, but no practical advice or activity suggestions. Love Nudge offers daily challenges based on your results.
- ⚠️ The app isn't updated often, and I noticed a couple of minor typos in the question wording. It doesn't feel as polished as newer relationship apps like Couple Game.
- ⚠️ Some users might find the illustrations a bit too childish, especially if they're looking for a more serious tool for couples counseling or therapy.
