I gave the ghost detector app FestAI a shot after a late-night YouTube rabbit hole about paranormal investigation tools. It's listed on both Google Play and the App Store. I just searched for "ghost detector" and saw this one with a pretty cool glowing UI preview. I downloaded it for free. When I launched it for the first time, there was a quick loading screen. It immediately asked for camera and microphone permissions and had a small one-time tip about not pointing the camera at direct sunlight. You don't need to register an account. I noticed a small in-app purchase area for extra sound filters. There was no full-screen ad, just a small banner at the bottom. The whole thing felt like a toy or a novelty utility app rather than something serious.

After granting permissions, I got a live viewfinder with a radar-like overlay. The app shows a ghost radar in the corner that spins constantly. The main screen has a few buttons. There is one for "Spirit Box" which generates random radio sweeps, and one for "EMF Meter" that shows fluctuating numbers. I walked around my living room. Every time the EMF spike went high, the radar would blink red. There is a motion sensor built into the camera view that detected my cat walking by and flagged it as "Movement Detected." The whole app feels a bit scripted. The numbers change fast enough to keep you on edge. If you tap the screen, you can switch to night vision mode, but it just throws a green filter on the camera. The onboarding is just a short splash screen. I didn't feel confused. It's straightforward. A practical tip: keep your hand steady, or the motion sensor will always trigger false positives.

After a week of using FestAI, I would say it is fun for a sleepover or if you have friends who are into spooky stuff. But it isn't a real tool. It feels like a random number generator with a camera filter. I think younger teens would enjoy it a lot more than adults. The app is different from something like GhostTube, which tries to simulate actual EVP analysis. FestAI is more like a generic ghost meter. I would keep it installed for party tricks, but it is the first app I'd delete if I run out of storage. It feels a bit gimmicky. It isn't a serious paranormal tool, just a nice piece of casual entertainment.

features

  • 👻 Radar Overlay: The live radar is the core of the app. It rotates constantly and changes color based on the EMF reading. It looks spooky on screen but it is just a reactive animation. It doesn't really detect anything, it just reacts to the audio or camera changes.
  • 📡 Spirit Box Sweep: This feature mimics a real spirit box by randomly picking up radio frequencies. It sounds creepy in the dark but it is just random noise. It is similar to the one found in GhostTube but without any real signal processing.
  • 🔍 Motion Detection: The app uses your camera to detect movement and flags it. This feature is overly sensitive. My ceiling fan triggered it. It feels like a simple motion detection script wrapped in a ghost hunter theme.
  • 📷 Night Vision Filter: Just a green filter over the camera feed. It adds to the atmosphere but does not do anything functional for detection. It is purely cosmetic.

pros

  • 👍 Free to Use: Unlike GhostHunter M2 which asks for a subscription, FestAI is completely free with just a small banner ad. You can use all core features without paying anything.
  • 👍 Simple Interface: It has only a few buttons. No complicated settings. You just point and watch. It is easier than GhostTube which has a crowded UI.
  • 👍 Fun Atmosphere: The glowing UI and the radar spinner make it feel like a real ghost hunting device, even for skeptics. It creates a fun vibe for groups.
  • 👍 Lightweight: It runs smooth on old phones. It doesn't drain battery like the AR ghost apps do. It is a simple overlay, not heavy graphics.

cons

  • 👎 No Real Detection: This app is just random noise and animation. It doesn't actually detect magnetic fields or spirits. Apps like GhostTube at least try to simulate real EMF meters.
  • 👎 Oversensitive Motion Sensor: The camera motion detection flags almost every movement. My own hand moving the phone triggers it. It becomes annoying quickly.
  • 👎 Repetitive Sounds: The spirit box and EMF sounds repeat very fast. After five minutes the audio loops become boring. PhantomRadio has more variety in its audio output.
  • 👎 Lacks Depth: There is no history log or chart. You cannot save your findings. If you want to record sessions, you will have to use a separate screen recorder.
