Look, I'm just going to be honest: Stranger Things 5 Challenges by MVH Entertainment Team is not an official Netflix game. It's a fan-made trivia and challenge app that landed on the Play Store with a modest download count, riding on the hype of the show's final season. You install it for free, launch it, and immediately get hit with a wall of ads before you can even see the main menu. There's no registration required, which is a small mercy, but the first impression is honestly rough — the UI looks like it was pulled from a 2012 template, and the app title uses the show's name in a way that feels legally questionable. You keep it installed because you love the show, not because the app itself feels polished.
Once you push past the initial ad barrage, the actual experience is a mixed bag. You pick a season, then a specific episode, and the app throws a challenge at you — could be a trivia question about a minor detail, a "who said this line" prompt, or a timed memory test about character positions. The onboarding is nonexistent; you just tap around until something happens. Navigating between challenges feels clunky because the back button sometimes takes you to a full-screen ad instead of the previous menu. On the plus side, the challenge variety is decent — you get fill-in-the-blanks, multiple choice, and even some swipe-based puzzles. A practical tip: turn off your internet after the app loads if you want to avoid the worst of the ad breaks, though some challenges seem to require a connection anyway.
After a few sessions, my judgment settled somewhere between "fun for a quick fix" and "why did I sit through that ad?" This app is for the superfan who wants to prove they remember every Easter egg from Season 2. If you just casually watched the show and forgot half the character names, you'll get frustrated fast because the questions dig into really specific moments. Compared to something like the official Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales, this app feels scrappy and unpolished — but it also covers the entire series including the final season speculation, which the official games don't touch. I kept it installed for about a week, played during commutes, then uninstalled because the constant ad interruptions killed the momentum. For a free app made by a small team, it's not terrible — it just feels like a fan project that got released a bit too early.
features
- 🎯 Stranger Things 5 Challenges packs in trivia from all five seasons, including speculation-based challenges about the final season that official apps like Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales avoid entirely. This makes it a goldmine for lore nerds who argue about Eleven's backstory.
- 🎯 The challenge variety actually beats many similar fan apps — you're not just clicking multiple choice. There are timed memory games where you match character faces to episode titles, and "audio recall" rounds where you guess scenes from sound snippets. I never expected decent variety from a free app.
- 🎯 Unlike Netflix's own Stranger Things 3: The Game, which locks content behind a paywall, this app offers everything for free (with ads). You can replay any season's challenges without spending a cent, which is a big deal if you're broke or just curious.
- 🎯 The leaderboard system is surprisingly addictive — it ranks players by correct answers and speed, so you end up redoing challenges just to beat a friend's score. It feels like a mini competitive league within a simple trivia app.
pros
- 👍 No paywalls whatsoever — unlike some official apps like Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales that gate content behind in-app purchases, this one gives you full access from the start. You just deal with occasional ads, which is a fair trade.
- 👍 It covers the entire series arc, including speculation about season 5, which official games often avoid due to spoiler concerns. If you're deep into theories about Vecna's origins, this app feeds that obsession.
- 👍 The variety of challenge types (not just trivia but memory and audio puzzles) keeps it from feeling repetitive, unlike many fan apps that only offer quiz-style questions. I genuinely enjoyed the sound-based rounds.
cons
- 👎 The ad frequency is brutal — between every challenge, sometimes in the middle of a challenge if you accidentally tap the wrong spot. Official apps like Stranger Things 3: The Game are ad-free after purchase, which feels like heaven compared to this.
- 👎 The UI looks outdated and the navigation is confusing; buttons sometimes overlap with ad banners, causing accidental taps. It feels like an early 2010s web app crammed into a mobile wrapper.
- 👎 Some challenges have factual errors, likely because the developers aren't officially affiliated with Netflix. I spotted a question about Season 4 that got a character death date wrong.
- 👎 The app crashes occasionally on older phones, especially during audio challenges. If you're running anything below Android 11, expect some frustration.
