Monster Call: Prank Video Call is a lighthearted prank app that lets you simulate fake incoming video calls from a bunch of cartoon monsters. It's not a utility tool or a social app; it's purely for entertainment and harmless jokes. You can use it to pretend someone like a giant spider, a ghost, or a slimy creature is calling you, which can be funny in the right moment. A normal user might download it after seeing a friend pull off a funny prank or just out of curiosity. My first impression after opening it was that it's pretty barebones. The install count isn't something I memorized, but it feels like a niche app on the Google Play Store. There's no registration or login, which is nice. It's free to download, but there are optional in-app purchases to unlock more monster characters, and you will see some ads here and there unless you pay to remove them.
Using the app is straightforward but a bit rough around the edges. After launching, you see a simple list of monster characters. You pick one, type in a fake caller name, and set a delay before the "call" starts. Then you hand the phone to someone, and after the timer runs out, a fake incoming call screen appears with the monster's face. You can answer it or let it ring for a while before it ends. The interface feels clunky; the buttons are small and not very polished, and the design looks a few years out of date. One smooth moment is how the call screen actually looks similar to a real incoming call, which adds to the trick. A practical tip: set the delay to around 5 seconds so it isn't too obvious. A confusing moment is that some monsters don't actually do much when you "answer" the call; they just stare or make a generic noise, which can kill the joke fast.
After using Monster Call for a bit, my personal feeling is that it works for specific situations but isn't something I'd keep installed for long. Kids or teens who enjoy silly pranks might get a few laughs from it, especially at a party or sleepover. Adults likely won't find much use unless they are really into practical jokes. Compared to similar apps like Fake Call Full or Fake Call from Girlfriend, Monster Call stands out by focusing on monsters rather than realistic people, which makes it less creepy but also less convincing. What makes it different is the cartoonish style, which feels playful rather than trying to be real. I'd probably uninstall it after a week or two since the novelty wears off quickly, and the limited free monsters and frequent ads make it feel cheap. Someone who loves rotating prank material might keep it around, but for me, it's a one-time giggle.
features
- 👻 The core feature is simulating incoming video calls from a selection of cartoon monsters, such as a vampire or a zombie, with full-screen animations and sounds.
- 👻 You can customize the call by setting a timer delay from a few seconds to a minute, which makes the prank feel more natural when you hand the phone to someone.
- 👻 The app includes a "shake to answer" gimmick, where you have to physically shake the phone to accept the call, adding an extra layer of interaction.
- 👻 Unlike similar apps that offer realistic human callers, Monster Call's standout trait is the silly, over-the-top monster designs that lean into humor rather than fear.
pros
- 🎈 It's free to install with no registration, so you can start pranking immediately without jumping through hoops, unlike some apps that lock basic features behind accounts.
- 🎈 The fake call screen mimics the real system call interface decently, which gives it a slight edge over apps like Fake Call Free that have more obvious fake overlays.
- 🎈 It offers a decent variety of free monsters out of the box, so you don't feel forced to pay right away, which is better than many gacha-style prank apps.
- 🎈 The timer delay is reliable and doesn't glitch, so the call always triggers at the exact moment you set, avoiding awkward dead air.
cons
- 💧 The app is packed with ads, even between prank attempts, which completely breaks the flow and can ruin the joke's timing compared to paid apps like Prank Call Simulator that are ad-free.
- 💧 The monster animations are very basic and repetitive; after a few calls, you see the same 2-second loop, making it less convincing than apps with animated human characters.
- 💧 Some monsters don't have proper audio or only play a short sound clip, so the prank falls flat when the "call" is answered and nothing funny happens for long stretches.
- 💧 The design feels outdated and the button placement is cramped, which makes setting up a call under pressure frustrating, while rival apps have cleaner, more modern interfaces.
