You know those moments when you just want to mess with someone without being mean about it? That's basically the whole point of Funny Prank: Monster Sound, a soundboard app from Mirai Games. I found it while scrolling through Google Play one boring afternoon, and the install count was high enough to make me curious. It's free to download and launch, no forced registration or anything, so you can jump right into the mischief. The first impression after opening it is kind of ridiculous: a cartoon monster face staring at you, ready to roar. The whole vibe is intentionally silly, not polished or premium. It feels like a toy rather than a tool, and that's probably for the best.
Actually using it is dead simple. You land on a main screen filled with big, colorful buttons, each labeled with a sound like "Ghostly Laugh" or "Zombie Growl." I just tapped one randomly and a loud, cheesy monster noise blasted out of my phone speaker. It was goofy enough that I actually laughed. The interface is pretty straightforward, you swipe to scroll through different sound categories, some spooky, some goofy, some just weird. I recorded a short audio clip of my friend talking, then turned it into something that sounded like a demonic beast, which genuinely startled them. The onboarding is minimal so there's no learning curve, you just press buttons and make noise. One tip: if you want to use it for a prank, keep the phone close to your pocket speaker, the sounds are loud but not very clear in a noisy room.
After messing around with it for a week, I'd say this app is a solid pick if you enjoy quick, harmless pranks with friends or siblings. But honestly, if you're looking for something more sophisticated or truly terrifying, this won't cut it. It's not trying to compete with apps like "Prank Call Flash" or "Soundboard Studio," which offer cleaner audio and more realistic effects. Instead, it leans into the cartoonish, over-the-top side of things. I kept it installed because it's small and fun to pull out during a boring hangout, but I could see someone uninstalling it quickly if they don't have a prankster streak. Compared to other soundboard apps, it's less about quality and more about sheer goofiness.
features
- 😈 The standout feature for me is the "Monster Voice Changer." Unlike something like "Voice Changer Plus" which offers tons of effects but buries the good ones deep in menus, this app just lets you record a short clip and immediately turn it into a grumbling beast or a creepy whisper. It's fast, which matters when you're trying to surprise someone.
- 😈 Another big plus is the built-in prank timer. You can set a sound to play after a delay, say 30 seconds, and then hide your phone near a friend. It feels more natural than most soundboard apps I've tried, where you have to manually trigger everything.
- 😈 The sound library is huge. There are over 50 different monster sounds, from classic howls to weird alien blobs. That's way more variety than "Prank Sounds 2024" offers, which only has about 20 average-quality clips.
pros
- 👍 One huge strength is how lightweight the app is. It doesn't drain your battery or hog storage, unlike "Soundboard Pro" which takes up 200MB and runs heavy ads in the background.
- 👍 The visuals are charming. Instead of a boring list of sounds, you get this colorful, monster-themed interface that actually makes you smile when you open it. "Real Prank Sounds" just looks like a spreadsheet.
- 👍 It's completely functional offline. No Wi-Fi needed to scare your friends, which is more than you can say for "Prank Buddy" which requires an internet connection for most sounds.
cons
- 👎 The sound quality is mediocre at best. The monster roars sound compressed and tinny compared to the crisp audio you get from "Sound Effect Studio." It works for a laugh, but it's not immersive.
- 👎 There is no background playback option. If you close the app, the sound stops immediately. "PrankMaster" lets sounds run even when the app is minimized, which is way more flexible for setups.
- 👎 The free version has a very short sound recording limit, only about 10 seconds. That feels restrictive compared to "Voice Changer Deluxe" which gives you a full minute for free.
