Curso Inglés, Aprender Inglés is, at its core, a straightforward language-learning app focused entirely on helping Spanish speakers pick up English. It falls squarely into the education or self-improvement category, but with a very specific target audience. You can find it on Google Play, and I downloaded it after seeing it had a decent number of installs. It's free to download, though like most apps of this type, you quickly realize there are in-app purchases waiting behind certain lessons or premium features. The launch screen is simple—no flashy animations, just a clean button to jump right into a placement test if you want, or you can start from the very beginning. Honestly, my first impression was that it feels a bit dated compared to something like Duolingo, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing if you just want to get down to business without the gamified noise.

Once you get inside the app, the experience is pretty no-nonsense. The interface is mostly text-based, with buttons leading to different lesson categories like grammar, vocabulary, and verb conjugation. There isn't much of an onboarding tour; you just pick a category and start. For example, tapping on "verb tenses" immediately throws you into a multiple-choice quiz on present simple versus present continuous. A lot of these exercises rely on translation—you see a sentence in Spanish and have to pick the correct English equivalent. I found the flow a bit clunky when I accidentally finished a section; there's no clear "next" button, so I had to navigate back to the menu to pick a new lesson. One small tip: do their placement test first, even if you think you know the basics, because it saves you from grinding through beginner stuff you already understand. The sound effects are minimal, and I didn't notice any ad pop-ups during my short sessions, which was a pleasant surprise.

After using it for a while, I can see who this app is really for: maybe someone who speaks only Spanish and just wants a no-frills way to learn English grammar rules and vocabulary without any of the silly game mechanics. It's not trying to be Babbel or Lingodeer; it feels more like a digital workbook. What makes it different is its laser focus on the Spanish-to-English dynamic, so the explanations hit different pain points that generic apps miss. But to be honest, the lack of speaking practice or conversation simulations made me feel like I was just doing homework, not actually learning to communicate. I can see someone keeping it installed if they're cramming for a grammar test at school or work. On the other hand, if you want listening comprehension or real-world dialogues, you'll probably uninstall it pretty quickly and look for something like EnglishPod or a good YouTube channel instead.

features

  • 🔹 Grammar drills with instant feedback: Unlike Duolingo, which often buries grammar in its tree structure, Curso Inglés gives you dedicated blocks for each tense or rule, so you can focus on one concept until you get it right. You answer a question, and it immediately tells you what you missed without any confusing hints.
  • 🔹 Full Spanish interface: The app doesn't try to be bilingual or switch to English halfway through. Every menu, instruction, and error message is in Spanish, which makes it a lot easier for absolute beginners who don't understand a word of English yet. Babbel does this too, but only in its paid version.
  • 🔹 Verb conjugation tables: This might sound boring, but if you're serious about learning English verbs, they have a dedicated section with all the forms listed out. No guessing, no games, just the facts. Most other apps like Memrise skip this and expect you to pick it up naturally, which doesn't work for everyone.

pros

  • 💪 Beginner-friendly placement test: Instead of forcing you through endless beginner levels, the app tests your knowledge right away and lets you skip ahead. Duolingo and Babbel both make you start from scratch even if you already know basic words, so this saves real time.
  • 💪 Clean and simple layout: There aren't any distractions, like random animations or social features. If you just want to open the app, do a 10-minute drill on past simple, and close it again, this is perfect. Busuu feels cluttered in comparison with all its community stuff.
  • 💪 No constant ads during lessons: I didn't see any surprise video ads popping up after every quiz, which is rare for a free app. Most free learning apps, including Duolingo, shove ads in your face after every exercise, so this is a big plus.

cons

  • 👎 No speaking or listening practice: You only read and type answers. There are no listening exercises where you hear native pronunciation or speech recognition to check your accent. Apps like Elsa Speak or HelloTalk focus heavily on that, so you miss a whole skill here.
  • 👎 Outdated visual design: The interface looks like it was built five years ago. The fonts are plain, colors are muted, and there's no real visual hierarchy. Duolingo and Lingodeer look much more modern and engaging, which makes practicing feel less like a chore.
  • 👎 Poor navigation after finishing a lesson: When you complete a quiz, there's no clear button to continue to the next one. You have to manually go back to the menu and find the next lesson. This breaks the flow and feels clunky compared to Babbel's seamless lesson progression.
